Baldwin upright piano review 1997

Introduction

This piano sits somewhere close to the higher middle range of pianos.

Sound

Bass, and mid treble were very strong and balanced. Top treble a little weaker.

Overall slight boomy sound, with quick cutoff, as in most modern pianos.

icon

Design

Tuning pin block multiple laminations, causing hard to turn pins.

The piano has a pleasant mahogany cabinet, and seems to me as the basis for pianos like the Yamaha P202, P22 models.

Touch was even, and allowed for quick passages, as well as dynamics. The depth was just right.

Conclusions

A solid American upright piano, from American brand Baldwin.

If the year is right. The piano is in good condition, it plays well, showing early signs of need of some regulation in its 20+ years of life.

These are my views are no substitute for a condition, and tone report from a well versed local piano tuner.
